Are we winning the fight against plastic pollution and dirty beaches?
Do you care if the beach is clean? Do you think it's yesterday's news?
We have dipped our toes into beach cleans in the past and filmed a couple for the channel. If we see litter on the beaches when out walking our dogs, we feel compelled to pick it up. But is it worthwhile? Will the relentless plastic ever be conquered?
I join Carol from One Bag Beach Clean and her army of volunteers at Maenporth Beach on World Oceans Day for an update about the current thoughts about beach cleans. Is Maenporth Beach clean?
To get involved and for details about groups in this video:

The standard description bit…
We are Sarah and Andrew and we film around Cornwall and publish on UA-cam, usually weekly. Sometimes we stay in accommodation in Cornwall and upload our vlog. Sarah is fascinated by sea glass and likes to collect it so there may be the occasional sea glass video too. The channel is a hobby and we both have normal day jobs!
Unfortunately we cannot answer comments coming in more than a week after the publishing date of the video.
Frequently asked questions:
Do we do meet ups?
We regularly receive requests to meet up from viewers and subscribers, but unfortunately we do not have availability to be able to do this.
The channel is a very time consuming hobby, fitted around our employment and family commitments. Setting aside time for meet ups, means that we are not able to film and edit our weekly videos that you love to watch.
If you happen to bump into us while out and about, we will be more than happy to have a quick chat!
Sarah and Andrew
What camera do we use?
Since December 2018 we have used: Canon Powershot G7x MkII
How do I find the books you use?
Most are still in print although some we pick up in charity shops and may be available on Amazon secondhand. Please refer to the video for the book titles. Every video shows the book title. Sorry but we can’t put a link in every description.
Best time of year to visit Cornwall?
We love May, June for flora and fauna, July and September for spectacular scenery.
What is your dog’s name?
Sorry but we do not release the name of our dogs, perhaps you can make up your own name for them.

Bland, Boring & Soulless - The MOST DEPRESSING Place in the UK 2024
Переглядів 20 тис.День тому
Ilivehere.co.uk, a scathing, satirical website, launched a reader vote to find out where the most depressing place in the UK is. They wanted somewhere bland, boring and soulless, devoid of culture and where residents exist rather than live. The results were published in February this year and a popular Cornish coastal town was voted No. 1!. We were so shocked at the results we felt compelled to...
1970s shop! A nostalgic trip down memory lane! - Elliott’s Shop, Saltash, Cornwall
Переглядів 8 тис.14 днів тому
In the quiet Cornish town of Saltash, there is a quiet shop that once rang with the voices and laughter of customers from 50 years ago! The owner, Frank Elliott, did not embrace decimalisation and did not want to pay business rates so he shut up shop! He continued to trade quietly from his side alley but mostly consumed the contents of the shop over his remaining lifetime. His aim was to keep t...

UK's DIRTIEST BEACH is in CORNWALL! - is South West Water (SWW) to blame? We were shocked!
Переглядів 19 тис.Місяць тому
One of our beautiful local beaches had been named as the DIRTIEST BEACH for swimming in the UK. We were shocked! We wanted to take a look for ourselves and, with feet on the ground, find some answers and any evidence of the problem. Is this award deserved? With sky high water charges, why have we got one of the dirtiest beaches? Is South West Water to blame? Has anything been done to remedy the...
KYNANCE COVE - New RULE at UK BEST BEACH could SPOIL your visit to CORNWALL
Переглядів 95 тис.Місяць тому
Today, the Cove attracts many visitors every year to enjoy the white sand and topaz blue waters, and maybe build a sandcastle! In April 2024, it was listed as one of the best beaches in the world, grabbing the #48 spot! In their efforts to conserve the habitat for rare plants and animals, The National Trust has restricted access to the cliff top view of the cove. Would this spoil your visit? Ky...

Cape Cornwall & St Just- Is it worth visiting?

We love this walk around Cape Cornwall because it follows a fabulous Cornish Folklore story of The Wrecker and the Death Ship. Watchout for Weaver Fish. Very very painful, they bury themselves in the sand at Kynance and just have their fin above the sand, and if you step on it.❣️❣️❣️❣️❣️❣️❣️ Why are they charging? Interesting.

Tbf I live here and it is pretty boring, nothing I really like about it. It’s on a very unpopular branch line off the mainline and only has a 2 car Dmu going up and down every half an hour. Also, there’s usually some antisocial behaviour going on somewhere

Well done a very worthwhile way to spend a few hours. I did notice a dog poo bag was found. One of my pet hates is the way some dog owners pick up after their dog but leave the bag behind. Maybe they intend picking it up on the way back and forget? At Idless woods the parish council have decided they can no longer afford to empty the dog bins so have removed them and there are piles of bags where the bins used to be! Who do these people think are going to pick them up? Please pick up after your dog and dispose of it in a responsible way people….sorry rant over!

Like all these towns, got money in your pocket and there not too bad. Lack of cash and there a dreary dull place. Just spent some time in Torquay and Paignton and there both struggling too. For the average person on a basic wage there just crazy, £10 for a burger and chips or a box of churios. Parking expensive. Same tourist tatt in the shops. I've lived in Devon /Cornwall for 30years now and I can't wait till I can find a fresh place to be.

Given the volume of waste water overflows or deliberate discharges which are the responsibility of these privately owned water companies, virtually every beach in Southern UK would be impacted with human waste. Dumping untreated wastewater saves these companies time and money. Often there is no basic straining of the material, and we know a lot of people don't consider what they flush. Objects such as synthetic face wipes, condoms, tampons, wound dressings, band aids, tea leaves, vegetable peelings, even cooking oils enter the system. So some of the plastic waste on beaches comes directly from the waste water. The issue of plastic in the environment is growing exponentially. Particle sizes as they are ground down blend in with sand, shell grit and coral rubble. And its entering our food chain. The excuses from the companies and the public bodies meant to regulate them is always the same. They spend "x" amount of money, but "it's complicated".

Lots of boat trips and many beautiful walks to take. Good public transport with ferries, buses and trains. What's not to like?

Lovely video Sarah ~ it's really heartening to see locals monitoring and sorting out their patch of coastline. How you managed juggling a bucket, a picker, a camera and interviewing these wonderful people I dont know! As a tourist, and when I'm down Penzance way, I usually do a leisurely litter-pick along Mounts Bay beach, between Penzance and Marazion with a packed lunch break midway (always take hand-sanitising wipes). I just scan 6ft left & right as I'm walking along beachcombing (a favourite passtime!), and can sometimes end up with over half a carrier bag full of stuff when I get to Marazion. It's very relaxed...it just becomes part of my day, and I feel like I've done my little bit for cleaner safer beaches :)

Hi Andrew and Sarah , Job well done , always good for the soul cleaning up rubbish and litter . When we lived in Helston I walked through Penrose Estate one morning and could not believe the amount of general rubbish that was everywhere , dog poo bags , dirty nappies , sweet bags , ice cream wrappers , the list goes on , I chose to return the following morning armed with half a dozen large rubbish bags and within a couple of hours , had filled the lot , sadly I did notice there were at that time no rubbish bins anywhere to be seen on the estate , might be different now , I made it a regular thing to go in and collect rubbish and after a few months I did notice that people were not littering as much , throughly enjoyed your vlog , well done to you and the volunteers .

I cannot believe that Falmouth would be on any list of this nature and definitely not at number one. I have had exhibitions there and it always seems lively and thriving with most shops taken and open when I last went there (although that was a few years back now). Surely it has not gone down that quickly.
